Arlyn Freely
Arlyn Versailles Freely is an excitable girl with a knack for invention and a love for people. She has the remarkable ability to talk her way into or out of nearly anything, much to the chagrin of her favorite person in the world, her cousin Graylin. With a love for people and a knack for trouble, if there’s a problem, Arlyn is there. Whether she caused the problem or not is a different question...
Lewis
Lewis Maynwin is a wise and level-headed girl with a passion for cooking, sewing, and reprimanding the Freely cousins for their antics. Born to a wealthy family, she has a variety of skills that she uses to get into places she’s not supposed to be. As the official cook of the Freelander, she’s both feared and beloved by the crew.
Enland
Enland is the Freelander’s resident cartographer, or as he’s more commonly referred to, map guy. Lanky, awkward, and with the highest intelligence of the crew, Enland ends up being the butt of most jokes. Some adjectives used to describe Enland are “fragile, nimble, cat-like, noodleish, wafe-y, beanpole-ish, noodle arms, toothpick-like, and stick-ish.” Fortunately, with these nicknames comes the benefit of being the crew’s only source of navigation, and the power that comes with it.
Graylin Freely
Graylin Freely is a brilliant but rather socially inept girl with a set of skills seemingly hand-picked for inventing. Her sketches contain unbeatable artistry, and she sports a photographic memory that most of the time serves to annoy her beloved cousin, Arlyn. Graylin puts out a tough exterior, but she’s truly a soulful person who feels things very deeply. This form of wisdom took prominence over her common sense.
River
River is a rambunctious boy with an unbeatable spirit and an endless supply of charisma. The Freelander’s resident nuisance, River takes great pride in the mischief he causes, especially towards the long-suffering Lewis. Arlyn Freely is his best friend in the whole world, the only people he’s closer to being his “brothers,” Teddy and Enland.
Teddy
Teddy is the musical genius of the crew, as well as the pilot of the Freelander. While not outgoing, his amiable personality and sharp wit landed him a beloved spot within the crew.
He’s often found standing back in the shadows and out of the way, preferring the spotlight land elsewhere. Maybe on Graylin Freely...
Meet the Authors
Evelyn and Emma Fust are cousins, and as such have known each other their entire lives, save the eleven months and 28 days during which Emma was waiting for Evelyn to be born. Both enjoy music and movies, and both are quite certain the story of Arlyn and Gralyn would not have been told without the other.
Co-authoring is rumored to be a difficult task, but the Fust cousins, much like the Freelys, are not only cousins but best friends, and found writing with each other to be basically the same as writing alone, save the extra brain cell or so they could occasionally borrow from the other.
